Hawks Acquire Crawford From Warriors

POSTED: 5:42 pm EDT June 25, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Hawks acquired guard Jamal Crawford from the Golden State Warriors on Thursday in exchange for guards Acie Law and Speedy Claxton.

"We feel we have gained tremendous flexibility with the addition of Jamal," said Hawks executive vice president and general manager Rick Sund. "He gives us balance in the backcourt, having produced at both point guard and shooting guard positions. Not only is Jamal a talented scorer, but he can also deliver quality production down the stretch of games."

Crawford split the 2008-09 season between the Warriors and New York after he was shipped to Golden State last November in a trade with the Knicks for forward Al Harrington. The 29-year-old averaged 19.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 65 total games last year.

During his career with the Bulls, Knicks and Warriors, Crawford has averaged 15.2 points a game.

The move was deemed necessary for the Hawks because starting point guard Mike Bibby and backup guard Flip Murray are both due to become unrestricted free agents this season.

Law averaged three points over 55 contests last season, while the injury- plagued Claxton played in just two games. He sat out the entire 2007-08 campaign due to a knee injury.
