Mayoral opponents Kasim Reed and Mary Norwood were to have their first runoff debate Wednesday, but Reed didn't show up.

The two candidates who will face each other in a runoff race for Atlanta mayor were back on the campaign trail Wednesday.

The Atlanta Hotel Council said that it invited all the mayoral candidates in September to debate at a luncheon Wednesday, in the event that the race went to a runoff. Hotel Council Executive Director Ron Fennel said all agreed to attend.

Councilwoman Mary Norwood attended the luncheon but her opponent, former state Senator Kasim Reed, failed to show up.

"I would invite anyone that has an invitation that was sent to my campaign to please provide it," said Reed. His campaign told CBS Atlanta that it received the debate invitation late Tuesday and could not reschedule Reed's Wednesday calendar.

Asked about her opponent's absence, Norwood said, "I'm delighted to be here."

"When someone tells you they'll be there, they look you in the eye and show up, you can trust them," said Fennel of the hotel council.

Both Norwood and Reed said they are seeking supporters from the mayoral candidates who lost in Tuesday's election.
