Gil Tyree

Emmy-award winning sportscaster Gil Tyree is the weekday sports anchor for CBS Atlanta.

Gil’s sports broadcasting experience includes the NCAA Final Four, Super Bowl XXX, Olympic features, NASCAR, College Football National Championship games, Major League Baseball (including World Championships), professional football, basketball and hockey, women’s sports, college and high school sports and much more.

Gil’s depth and experience not only includes television broadcasting, but radio involvement as well. He hosted a popular sports radio talk program, in affiliation with the Arizona Cardinals; has appeared as a frequent guest and panelist for numerous sports and radio shows to discuss and analyze topics ranging from sports to politics to social issues; and as a popular pre-game host for professional football.

In addition to his professional experience, Gil is a leader in the community. He is committed to helping the community wherever he lives and works. His past involvement includes providing leadership to facilitate the passing of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday in Arizona; forming a 100-person plus bike team that raised more than $200,000 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and founding member of the Arizona Association of Black Journalists.

Gil has participated in hundreds of fundraising dinners and events for organizations such as Upward Bound, the Special Olympics, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University, and a summer mentoring program at the University of Arizona and Friends of the Library. He has hosted telethons for the United Negro College Fund and was emcee for fundraising events for the Urban League, United Blood Services and opening ceremonies of the Grand Canyon State Games.

Gil is a graduate of Butler University where he was Sportscaster of the Year in 1995 (from the American Association of Women in Radio and Television).
