LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- CBS Atlanta News has learned more about a deadly plane crash in Lawrenceville.One of the survivors, Josh Hall of Lawrenceville, identified the man killed as his father, Mell Hall of Lawrenceville. Mell was also the pilot."Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do to get him out," said Josh, choking back a sob. “He was a great father."The small plane crashed on Simmons Street near Simmons Circle and erupted into flames around five p.m. Monday.Josh and two others escapedJosh said, "We were just going to take the plane up for a 15 minute maintenance ride."He said both the right and left engines stopped working moments after leaving Briscoe Field. Mell landed the plane in a wooded area, missing several homes.As of noon Tuesday, a third survivor remained hospitalized at Gwinnett Medical Center in fair condition.The NTSB and FAA are on the scene investigating the cause of the crash.The plane is a fixed-wing, multi-engine Beech aircraft that was built in 1960.
