MARIETTA, Ga. -- Maurice Alonso and Spencer McClure designed a winning logo for the Riverstone Montessori Academy fundraiser for Haiti."We really liked the idea of having a hand gesture on the front," said Alonso. The pair came up with the hand shake design and slogan, "Lend a hand to help Haiti...or maybe two.""It needed to sell so we could get as much money as possible to send to them," said McClure.A goal that's even more personal for Alonso."My neighbors are from Haiti and they had missing family members," said Alonso. "We just found out their family was OK, but I thought this could be something to keep their hopes up."Once the teens finished their design, their classmates took over. The kids raised enough money to cover all the production costs in just a few hours."For them to know they did this all themselves, and that they can have such a huge impact for people in need, it's so important for them," said teacher Korinne Akridge. The kids have already sold more than 200 shirts, and the product hasn't even arrived from the printer. The young designers said they can't wait to see their shirt around town."That would be really exciting to see something we created, that other people enjoy, and we're helping Haiti with," said Alonso.Go to www.riverstonemontessori.com to learn more.
