RIVERDALE, Ga. -- Clayton County commissioners fired embattled Police Chief Jeff Turner Monday night and reassigned him to the county's police academy.Commissioners also named Timothy R. Robinson as Turner's replacement. Robinson was Deputy Chief of Police, Field Operations Command. Robinson has been with Clayton County police since 1981.
Commissioners began the process of removing Turner last week. They claimed that under his watch, police have mishandled weapons, weapons have disappeared and two innocent women died during a chase.Commissioners originally voted 5-0 to reassign Turner to the police academy.Sunday, Turner told CBS Atlanta that he is ready to tell his side of the story. “The truth will come out in the meeting. I believe I have the support of the community. However, if commissioners want to reassign me to the police academy, it’s something I will have to accept,” said Turner.Check back often with CBSAtlanta.com for updates on this developing story.
