Exclusive: Robbery Victim Arrested After Being Tied Up

Victim Charged With Old Traffic Ticket

UPDATED: 6:29 pm EST December 4, 2009

An old traffic ticket landed a Southwest Atlanta woman behind bars, despite the fact that she had been tied up and robbed at gunpoint.

Sakeyka Dixon didn't want to talk as she was put in the back of a police car. But she's not a suspect, she's the victim. Three men kicked in the door at a Utoy Circle home. One man showed off a handgun as he tied Dixon up. The men loaded a flat screen TV, game systems and a laptop into their car before speeding off in front of a MARTA bus.

"It caught my eye that they were taking the TV out of the house," said the MARTA driver.

As part of their investigation, police put Dixon's name in their computer and found she was wanted in Grantville in Coweta County. The charge was violation of probation from a 4-year-old traffic ticket. Officers contacted Grantville police who said they wanted her brought in.

"It's kind of adding insult to injury," said Atlanta Police Detective Scott Priestly. "Had it been one of our violations, we probably would have held off, had her turn herself in another day."

But Priestly said they didn't have a choice.

"Once we run it and they say they want her, we have to act on it. So, she became a victim this morning and almost now a secondary victim for having to go to jail for the traffic violation," said Priestly.

Dixon's boyfriend, Davin Carmichael, arrived during the arrest.

"It's rough," said Carmichael. "But we're gonna pull through it."

Carmichael said he didn't know about the warrant, but as long as Dixon's safe, he doesn't care.

"She told me she's OK, and that's my main concern right now," said Carmichael. "It could have been worse, and that's the way I have to look at this situation."

Grantville police were not aware of the robbery when they acted on the warrant, but Police Chief Franklin Allen said Dixon has $1,400 in outstanding fines. Allen said if he had known, and could have talked to Dixon, they might have been able to avoid taking her into custody.
