JONESBORO, Ga. -- When Paul Pettitt heard Clayton State University is giving H1N1 shots to anyone who wants one, he came to campus right away. His 22-year-old granddaughter is recovering from a diagnosed case of the virus.“I have a little bit of a lung condition myself,” said Pettitt.Health officials at the university initially requested 7,000 doses, which they acknowledge was wishful thinking. But surprisingly, Clayton State University got all 7,000 doses.“I thought that we would get like a fourth of our shipment or half of our shipment, but we got our entire shipment at one time, so we’ve been quite busy with that,” said Dr. Julia Spinolo, Director of University Health Services. The in the last couple of weeks, University Health Services has distributed thousands of doses of the vaccine, but it still has thousands more, which also surprises Spinolo.“I just don’t know if the sizzle of it has died down a little, you know, the frenzy of it. So yeah, I’m a little bit shocked that we haven’t had a lot more people come in,” she said.Pettitt is thrilled there’s plenty of vaccine at Clayton State because now he’s protected.“This is incredible. That’s the reason why I got up early to come down here and do this,” he said.University nurses are distributing the vaccine to the public through Friday, Dec. 4 at Clayton State University’s Student Center. Clinic hours are 10 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Both the nasal spray and injectable versions of the vaccine are available. There is a $5 fee for non-students.
