MARIETTA, Ga. -- CBS Atlanta News learned Wednesday that the state suspended the license of a nurse anesthetist accused of groping and videotaping patients.Police said Paul Serdula, 47, a Marietta registered nurse anesthetist, fondled and groped patients under anesthesia.Serdula was arrested Monday night at a Holiday Inn Express.Police said Serdula hid a video camera under the sink of a Marietta dentist’s office in the women's bathroom and was taping women.Doctor Maurice Salama, who worked with Serdula, told CBS Atlanta that a woman who works at the dental office first spotted the camera in a staff bathroom. She told other staffers, who in turn called police."You know where the pipes have insulation around them. This insulation, there was a hole cut in it and the lens of the camera was basically pointing in the direction of the commode,” said Sgt. Dana Pierce."Once the shock was over, we realized we may have stopped this guy from doing this to other people," said Salama.Salama told us Serdula was a highly rated anesthetist, liked by patients and staff.Police believe the nurse could have taken advantage of hundreds of women and police have no idea who those victims are.Police said it was a search of Serdula's Marietta home that was the real shock. They found hundreds of videos of him allegedly sexually assaulting patients while they were put under during surgery."He was taking advantage, sexually battering, mostly these females that were under anesthesia he administered while they were under that anesthesia," said Sgt. Dana Pierce.Police said Serdula was a nurse contractor who worked at different dentist and doctor's offices. CBS Atlanta is told those offices were not linked to what he is accused of doing.Serdula had previously faced eavesdropping charges linked to the tapings and was released on $50,000 bond.He was rearrested Monday night and charged with sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, enticing a child for indecent purposes, child molestation, and eavesdropping.Serdula's first court appearance was Tuesday at 8 a.m. He was denied bond."We certainly have looked at some of the video and have been able to digest what is on there. But again, the magnitude of this is almost surreal," Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said Tuesday.Police said since Serdula's re-arrest, they have been flooded with calls by other possible victims."To find out that you have victims, not only in Georgia, other states around Georgia, all the way possibly out to the West Coast, that's very disturbing to us," Pierce said.
