Atlanta police said a "suspicious package" left at the Temple on Peachtree Street was a bag of newspapers wrapped in rubber bands.

The bomb squad was called after a caretaker discovered the package in a driveway.

Peachtree Street had been closed, but police have reopened the busy street.

According to the synagogue's Web site, The Temple is Atlanta's oldest synagogue and was founded in 1867. A dynamite blast blew a hole in the side of The Temple in 1958. No one was injured in the early morning blast. No one was ever convicted in the case.
