Several familes were displaced Friday morning by a fire at their DeKalb County apartment complex.

The fire started at about 1 a.m. at the Orchard Walk apartments on Flat Shoals Parkway. The apartments were recently renovated, residents said.

"I was sleeping. I woke up and smelled smoke," said one unidentified woman.

The woman thought she saw fog seeping into her bedroom. But when she smelled the smoke, she knew she had to do something.

"There was smoke coming out of the hallway, so I just got out," she said.

Authorities said seven families were displaced. A total of 14 adults and six children will have to find a new place to live.

No one was hurt.

Firefighters said they don’t know yet what caused the fire
