Bernard James Sanders Arrested Near Florida Line
Valdosta police arrested a 24-year-old man Wednesday night in connection with an outbreak of shooting at an apartment complex that left one man dead and wounded 10 other people.Police identified the man arrested in connection with the Sunday shootings, which took the life of Sidney Bivens, 19, as Bernard James Sanders of Valdosta. They said he was arrested on a felony murder warrant without incident during a traffic stop near Lake Park, about 10 miles south of Valdosta near the Florida line.Police Chief Frank Simons said Sanders is being held at the Lowndes County Jail without bond.Sanders' father, Mark Stewart of Valdosta, said his son was at the scene of the shooting but wasn't armed. He said Sanders was shot in the leg as he tried to run from the gunfire.Stewart said he is unsure whether his son has an attorney.
