ATLANTA -- Writer /director /actor/producer Tyler Perry has donated $150,000 to two Atlanta hunger relief organizations - The Atlanta Community Food Bank(ACFB) and Hosea Feed the Hungry (HFTH).Each donation will be comprised of a $50,000 food donation to be delivered November 19th, and $25,000 toward daily operating costs. In these times of economic downturn, more and more Americans are going hungry. Perry’s hope is that his donation will encourage others to give back to the community to help prevent hunger.Taking a cue from Perry, the cast and crew of the two television productions shooting at Tyler Perry Studios, “Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns” and “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne,” separately donated more than 2,250 lbs (150 large boxes) of food to local area food banks.Perry once benefited from organizations such as Hosea Feed the Hungry and The Atlanta Community Food Bank. The successful entrepreneur experienced periods of homelessness and hunger before finding success. He now focuses his philanthropic efforts toward charities benefiting those who are homeless and hungry including Feeding America, Covenant House and Perry Place - a 20 home community he built for displaced survivors of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.“There are so many people who need so much more this year, and Tyler Perry’s generous donation will make a big difference in so many lives,” said Elisabeth Omilami, Executive Director of Hosea Feed the Hungry. “Beginning this year, we are redefining our mission to not just feed those we serve but also transform their economic and physical lives by creating a new Case Management Department and developing our housing component.”“Tyler Perry’s support could not come at a better time,” said Atlanta Community Food Bank Executive Director Bill Bolling. “Over the past year, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in the need for food from the agencies we support. Whether it’s the people who have sought assistance before or the many new faces needing help, we’re going to need help sustaining our efforts to get food on the table over the long haul. This significant donation will certainly help us toward accomplishing that.”
