ATLANTA -- One of the officers CBS Atlanta News profiled in a story about Atlanta police officers who have been arrested, is defending himself. The original story, which aired Monday, uncovered 27 officers who have had run-ins with the law in the last two years. After Officer Edward Rabb saw the story about good cops gone bad, he asked his attorney to talk to us.Officer Rabb was with the elite red dog narcotic squad until his arrest in 2008 in connection with the rape of a neighbor. The district attorney's office decided not to take the case to court. Less than a year later, he was arrested on a charge of drinking and driving. Police reports show he blew an initial .18, more than twice the legal limit. The reports show his "eyes were blood shot and watery and he had urinated on himself."Not satisfied with being labeled a "bad cop," Rabb asked his attorney Gerald Griggs to answer our tough questions.Reporter Jennifer Mayerle asked Griggs, “We did not say anything inaccurate in our story, correct?”“No, you didn’t say anything inaccurate,” said Griggs.Griggs wanted the opportunity to talk about Officer Rabb's rape charge.“Mr. Rabb went through a lot of emotional turmoil based on this case because he was innocent. Like many people who are innocent, he had to fight to clear his name and that's what we're doing here, we're going to clear his name because he is a good officer,” said Griggs. He doesn’t believes Rabb will be found guilty of DUI either.“We believe we have facts, just like we had in the rape case. When we bring it forward that will show he was not under the influence of any alcohol to the extent he was less safe or over the legal limit,” said Griggs.Officer Rabb has been with the department for six years. He's currently on desk duty. The DUI case is expected to move forward in December.
