EAST POINT, Ga. -- Five names were called during roll call at Fort McPherson in East Point, but they could not respond. Members of the US Army Reserve Command gathered to honor the five Reserve soldiers killed at Fort Hood."This could have been any of us," said Major Eric Jackson.Thirteen people lost their lives during the shooting at Fort Hood, but Army Reserve Commanding General Jack Stultz said the tribute at Fort McPherson specifically honors the time the five reservists spent off base."These are people who back home are contributing so much," said Stultz. At least two of the honorees arrived at Fort Hood just days before the shooting. Jackson said that fact is difficult to face."I can understand if it's Iraq," said Jackson. "I can understand if it's Afghanistan, but not here."Stultz says every base is doing more to make sure the soldiers are safe at home, because the suspected gunman is an Army Major himself."We need to look at our soldiers all the time and say, 'Do we have any soldiers that are at risk because of the stress and strain that war has put on them?'" said Stultz. But as Fort McPherson soldiers pay their final respects, Stultz said some of the responsibility lies with them."Be good soldiers," said Stultz. "We teach our soldiers every day to pay attention to their surroundings and be aware."
