CANTON, Ga. -- A 12-year-old boy was arrested after taking a gun to his Cherokee County middle school Tuesday, sheriff's deputies said.

The boy also had ammunition in his pocket and in his locker at Dean Rusk Middle School in Canton, investigators with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department confirmed.

The boy, whose name was not released, was arrested. There was no immediate word on what charges the boy might face, but deputies said charges are expected.
