COLLEGE Park, Ga. -- Vendors at a strip mall in College Park are fighting to stay in a strip even though their landlord wants them to move out.More than 120 shopkeepers rent space at an indoor flea market from Pat Swindall at the Old National Discount Mall on Godby Road. They said Swindall told them to move out by today or he would demolish their booths. The vendors said Swindall locked them out of the mall since Sunday.CBS Atlanta asked Swindall the tough questions, but he did not answer them.Rick Sexton, an attorney for the vendors said Swindall, a former Georgia congressman indicted years ago on perjury charges, leases the building from retail chain TJ Maxx.Sexton said Swindall's lease recently expired. Sexton said Swindall was told he has to move out by next Monday.Vendors told CBS Atlanta that Swindall locked them out of the building the last couple of days. They said he told them they had to move out by Tuesday, otherwise he'd knock down their booths.Swindall came to the building and the vendors tried to get in, but Swindall kept the doors locked. He didn't speak with the shopkeepers or with CBS Atlanta."It's annoying and upsetting,” said Kebbah Janneh, a vendor at the mall. “He has always treated us this way-rude and arrogant."Vendors said Swindall shut them out during the most important time of year."These two weeks are the busiest season before Christmas. We want to be able to be open now,” Azina Still said.“We don't want nothing out of this but to go back in and continue our business as we are doing," Janneh said.CBS Atlanta asked a spokesman for College Park if Swindall has the right to knock down anything. The spokesman did not directly answer the question, but he did say Swindall does not have a permit to demolish anything.
