Pickens County authorities removed a body from a shallow grave Monday morning after a man admitted to the killing, deputies said.

The body was found in the front yard of Wilburn Childer’s mobile home in Jasper.

According to deputies, Childers, 51, called sheriff’s deputies at about 9 p.m. Sunday and told them that he was involved in a killing on Nov. 11. Childers took deputies to his front yard, investigators said, where deputies found evidence of a crime.

Monday, agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and sheriff’s deputies dug up the body of a white male in his early 30s. Investigators said the man died from at least one gunshot wound.

The man’s name was not released pending the notification of relatives, but deputies said the man may be a distant relative of Childers’. The body was taken to the GBI crime lab in DeKalb County.

Childers was charged with murder, concealing a death and tampering with evidence.
