ATLANTA -- The Public Service Commission says it relies on information from the public to create its illegal bus carrier list. They say after posting the list, they cannot do much more due to lack of staff and enforcement power. We started asking the tough questions about whether buses are on the road illegally without licenses and insurance.Ten companies from across Georgia make-up the illegal bus carrier list including a newly added one. It's Superior Coaches of Atlanta. It is the company Steve McClardy told us Monday he had licensed. The Public Service Commission added the name to the illegal bus carrier list. How many other companies are in business? We called or stopped by each location. Here are the responses we received:All American Coachlines gave us a $750 quote on the phone. When we went to the address, we were told it is now a tire shop. In a second phone call, we were told All American stopped running buses earlier this year. Now, they act as a broker. We stopped by the address for Atlanta Coach-Prince Limo and Shuttle. It was an apartment complex.Bi City Transportation in Columbus told us they have not started their business yet. The owner told us he is in the process of getting a license. He says he began advertising in anticipation of the KIA plant. No one answered the phone and there was not voice service for Budget Motor Coach. Their address was also incorrect as listed on PSC websiteHolmes Transportation in Thomaston told us over the phone they are licensed and insured.J.T. Travel and Charter also told us over the phone they are licensed and insured. We stopped by their East Point location and were told they know they are on the PSC website. The company says they should have been taken off the illegal bus list awhile ago.We could not find a current address or phone number for Thriller Travel. The owner of Top Shelf Entertainment says she books for other bus companies and does not run a bus company. She said she spoke to the PSC earlier this year and was frustrated with their lack of response.Superior Coaches of Atlanta and Superior Transportation Group are both run by Steve McClardy. McClardy is the owner of a bus carrying 42 students that overturned on Interstate 75 on Saturday en route to a football game in Albany. He is under investigation.McClardy was arrested Thursday on a warrant for two counts of felony deposit account fraud. He bonded out Thursday evening on $500 bond.Fulton County court officials said that in addition to other pending arrest warrants for undisclosed charges, McClardy is wanted by Gwinnett County authorities. The PSC said their list on their website on 11/5 is accurate and up-to-date.
