ATLANTA -- An official with Georgia's Public Service Commission announced that the state has started investigating the bus company involved in Saturday's bus crash that injured more than 40 Morehouse College band members.Bill Edge, a spokesperson for the Public Service Commission said Superior Transportation was not licensed by the state. The state commission oversees and licenses carriers for intrastate travel. Edge also confirmed that the state sent Superior a cease and desist order last February. Superior's owner Steve McClardy claims that he never got the letter."The state got it wrong," McClardy said.McClardy said that the state got his name wrong on the cease and desist letter. McClardy also says that he is licensed by the state under the name Superior Coach. CBS Atlanta spoke with Edge about the possible mix up, however, Edge says neither Superior Transportation nor Superior Coach is authorized to operate in Georgia."We have no permit certificate issued to a Superior Coaches of Atlanta Inc. Bottom line, there was an application filed in 2008 under that name. We never got the documentation needed to process the application. It was dismissed in march of 2009," Edge said.Edge said The Public Service Commission will hold a special hearing. Georgia State Patrol is also investigating the matter.Tuesday afternoon, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Transportation also confirmed that Superior Transportation has no licensing and is not authorized to operate.
