An 86-year-old Smyrna man shot his caregiver Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The shooting happened at about 12:30 p.m. at a home on Brookview Lane.

Officers said Thomas Brannon shot at his caregiver, Kathleen Jones, 54, during an argument about money.

According to investigators, officers were called to the house after Jones called 911, saying she'd been shot in the head.

Police said they were called to the same address Monday, when the two began arguing.

Neighbors said Brannon is a Navy veteran and a former post office employee. But they said they've never noticed trouble at the home.

“You'd see him working in the yard a lot. He kept his yard real neat and he was a really nice guy, didn't say much,” said neighbor David Stultz.

Jones was in a hospital Tuesday afternoon in stable condition.

Brannon was taken into police custody. Charges against Brannon were not immediately announced.
