STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- An 8-week-old kitten was found wandering around the Waterford Place Apartments in Stockbridge on Halloween night, covered with burns."It was really sweet," said Genesis Burroughs. "I don't think it even knew what happened. I would think after something like that it would be afraid of people."Burroughs often feeds a group of stray cats that live in the woods behind her apartment. The kitten, named Sweetie, showed up a couple of weeks ago, completely healthy. Burroughs heard it crying Halloween night and found it had been abused."Everybody was kinda afraid to touch her," said Burroughs. "Somebody had to help her."Burroughs posted an ad on Craigslist asking for supplies and advice on how to nurse the kitten back to health. Allison Wenum of PeachState Pet Partners saw the plea and knew the cat would require additional care."It's disgusting that people could do something like that to an innocent little kitten," said Wenum.Wenum brought the kitten to the Alpharetta Animal Hospital for evaluation. The veterinarian said the scars were most likely caused by an acid burn. Sweetie's fur will probably never grow back, but her spirit is already healing."It's a blessing that bad things happen, but you get to see a good outcome," said Wenum.Until a suspect is caught, Burroughs said she'll keep an extra eye on the animals around her home."You can't just get away with something like that," said Burroughs. "Especially when it's just a kitten."Clayton County police are investigating the incident as animal cruelty. If you would like to adopt Sweetie, or help with her medical care, log on to http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/pspp.html.
