A 22-year-old Fulton County school bus driver was granted a $20,000 bond Thursday on a sexual assault charge involving allegations she had an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Police arrested the driver, Jacqualine Connally, 22, Wednesday night, and charged her with sexual assault.

Connally is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student, officials said. The boy, who is now 17, was a 10th-grader at Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn.

According to the school district, the alleged relationship has gone on for almost a year.

Connally was granted bond with the stipulation that she must live in her mother's home and may not have contact with anyone under 18 except for immediate family.

School officials said they found out about the relationship through a tip from a student. Connally was immediately fired, officials said.

"It's disappointing, but not surprising," said Renee Slaton, who has children at the school.

Student Desiree Slaton and her mother said they wonder if younger bus drivers should be assigned to elementary school routes, instead of high school routes.

"She shouldn't be driving a bus that young, for teenagers, especially. Because, you know, with guys, they want to get older women," Slaton said.

Tammy Dawson has two teenage sons at the school, and she said she'll talk with them.

"I've got some conversations to have when I get home, because, like I say, my son is 16. And I cannot believe that something like this is actually going on in this school. And this school is new," Dawson said.
