H1N1 Ripple Effect

Business Leaders Prepare Workforce For Illness

Saint Joseph's Hospital held a flu forum Thursday for business leaders.

The goal is to prepare employers for an on-the-job outbreak. Susan Kill, director of Emergency Services at St. Joseph's Hospital, said this scenario is not far-fetched.

Kill said it's important that business owners figure out a plan so that if large numbers of employees became ill the company would still be able to operate and stay in business.

She said employers will have to think outside of the box and possibly change the way they do business.

In the event of an outbreak, employers may have to hold conference calls instead of meeting in person, allow employees to work form home, and eliminate handshakes.
