DECATUR, Ga. -- A family is reunited with their loved one after she spent close to 30 hours unidentified following a traumatic accident in Decatur.23-year-old Sarah Halperin is recovering from serious wounds to the head. Her injuries are the result of an accident with a car at the intersection of N. Decatur Rd. and Clairmont Rd. in DeKalb County.Halperin, an avid jogger, was running in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 23 when she was struck. The driver remained on the scene while paramedics rushed the recent Emory graduate off to Atlanta Medical Center. At the time Halperin was unconscious and had no identification - just an iPod.Staff at Atlanta Medical Center used the iPod’s serial number to eventually learn Halperin’s identification. Halperin had previously registered her device with Apple so the serial number linked the device with its owner. From there, workers eventually notified Halperin’s only living parent, her mother, who lives in the Northeastern United States. She is currently by her daughter’s side in the hospital. The family is from Maryland .A spokesperson for the family said they are thankful to hospital workers for going the extra mile.Halperin remains unconscious and in critical condition while recovering.
