ATLANTA -- A local law firm said scammers have ripped off their account information and are sending out phony sweepstakes checks.CBS Atlanta found out about this scam from one of our employees who received one of these checks and knew something seemed fishy. The Fryer Law Firm in Atlanta is listed on the check and we're just as surprised as the recipients.Lisa Estes works for the Fryer Law Firm and she's spent a lot of time trying to track down the scammers that ripped off the firms account information and then used it to print bogus sweepstakes checks.“We'd love for them to catch these people. We would absolutely love it. Our phones ring off the hook daily,” said Estes.Estes said the scammers sent letters across the country telling consumers they're entitled to $250,000 and to get it they have to cash a check for more than $4,000 and then wire the money back to the scammers to pay for taxes on the winnings.“This morning we were notified that a gentleman in Pennsylvania, in Clarion, Pennsylvania has deposited one of these checks,” said Estes.Estes decided to call and confront one of the scammers. She spoke with claims agent “Phil Taylor”.“Phil” told Estes that he hopes she goes to jail.
