ATLANTA -- CBS Atlanta asked Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin the tough questions about crime Wednesday.Franklin made no comments about Atlanta Police Chief Richard Pennington or about what's being done to combat the city's crime wave, which some have called our “City under Siege.”Franklin had no problem talking about an affordable housing program to get people to move to Atlanta.“It was important for us to create incentives for people,” said Franklin during an earlier interview. “It is programs like this that make it possible for those who are seeking to buy a home.”But what she would not talk about is how she and Chief Pennington plan to keep people safe. She would not answer CBS Atlanta’s tough questions about what's being done about the city's current crime crisis.“I'm not going to have any comments today,” said Franklin.“When will you have comments? People want to know what's going on? What's being done to fight the crime that we are having in the city? Where's the chief,” asked CBS Atlanta’s Tony McNary.“I will not have any comments today period,” said Franklin.Mayor Franklin refused to say when she would say anything about the violent crimes plaguing the city. She walked away with not so much as a hint of what she plans to do to keep you safe.Late Wednesday afternoon, the City of Atlanta sent out a news release saying that Mayor Franklin and Chief Pennington will be holding a news conference Thursday morning at 10 a.m.CBS Atlanta will be there asking them the tough questions about what the city is planning to do about crime.
