No Balls Allowed In Canton Park

Balls, Frisbees Outlawed

POSTED: 8:06 am EDT July 10, 2009

The city of Canton, Ga. passed a law banning active sports in two parks.

Violators could be arrested for playing with balls or Frisbees in Boling Park and Heritage Park.

No one has been arrested yet. Right now their focus is alerting the public about the new rule, but some are not happy about it.

“Were sitting there playing Frisbee and we run when we see a cop like we’re doing a drug deal. It’s just ridiculous,” said Cody Fulkerson. “We didn't think it’s right so we are speaking up for it.”

City council members listened, but they say the reason the law is necessary is other people have complained that these parks have become dangerous for joggers or people just out enjoying a stroll.

The concern is getting hit by a fast moving ball or flying Frisbee.

One group is hoping they can find common ground with council members. They plan on showing up at every council meeting in protest until the law is changed.

“We will not let up. We want to get this changed they said its fair but it’s really one sided,” said Mark Sghiatti.

The council plans on discussing this further during next week’s meeting.

Right now there are no immediate plans on changing the rules.
