The city of Marietta canceled a job fair because most of the companies involved aren't hiring.

The Marietta/Cobb Career Expo was scheduled for August 26 at the Cobb Civic Center. The event is still listed on the city's Web site.

Marietta city councilman Anthony Coleman said he didn't want to give people who were planning to attend the event "false hope." He said he plans to revive the expo next year.

Last year, the expo drew more than 70 employers and 1,500 applicants. The event was sponsored by the city, Cobb County, and the Georgia Department of Labor.
