Gwinnett County police shot and killed a man during a drug raid in Lawrenceville early Wednesday morning.

Cpl. David Schiralli said officers executing a search warrant for the Drug Enforcement Agency at a home in the northern Atlanta suburb.

"They had a knock warrant. When they approached the house, they knocked several times in several different locations around the house. They announced their presence," Schiralli said.

The officers were then confronted by the man, who allegedly pointed a cocked 40-millimeter handgun at the officers. Schiralli said officers shot and killed the man.

The suspect's name and age were not released.

Schiralli said a second suspect, Samuel Isaak Rivera-Lopez, 19, was arrested as he tried to flee out the back door. He is charged with trafficking cocaine and obstructing an officer. He is being held in the Gwinnett County jail without bond.

Neighbors said they didn't know that anything was going on.

"I didn't hear anything. I came out to get my newspaper. My neighbor had called me and asked me if I knew what was going on and I said no," said resident Lucille Rowe.

The three police officers involved in the shooting were put on routine paid administrative leave and the department is investigating, Schiralli said.
