A Gwinnett judge dismissed charges Wednesday on the mother who, police said, attempted to perform an exorcism on her son.

Gwinnett Magistrate Judge Robert Mitchum dismissed charges of false imprisonment and cruelty to children against 46 year-old Sandra Alfred.

Police said Alfred tried to perform an exorcism on her 15-year-old son.

Arrest warrants said Alfred used handcuffs to restrain her child and made him fast for 12 hours at a time during the attempted exorcism.

Those warrants also said the child was taken to a church for an exorcism, but did not say which church.

Police discovered that the teen had been handcuffed for up to five hours at a time. He went to the hospital for dehydration and cuts to his wrist.

The officer who applied for the arrest warrants noted that Alfred may suffer from schizophrenia and delusions.

Mitchum ruled that her actions were not criminal.

The district attorney’s office could still seek an indictment.
