Midtown Gym Vandalized Again

Gym Has Been Robbed Or Vandalized Seven Times In Two Weeks

Criminals have targeted a popular Midtown gym again.

Someone smashed a metal yard light and put a stake through a window at Urban Body Fitness Wednesday night.

No one was injured at the gym which was still open at the time.

This is now the seventh time Urban Body Fitness and Urban Body Studios next door have been broken into or vandalized in the last two weeks.

Atlanta police decided to camp out on the gym's roof Wednesday morning and it paid off. Officers caught Donald Rayfield, 41, trying to break in to the gym.

So how did gym owner Rad Slough convince Atlanta police to camp out at his gym? He thinks it's because he started pointing fingers.

"It seemed a little odd that every time there wasn't a police officer in the building, the building kept getting broken into. I think I ruffled a couple of feathers. That and the fact that it was five break-ins in 10 days," said Slough.

Slough is waiting to hear if police believe Rayfield is responsible for the other break-ins.

"I'm going to be spending the night in the gym and I'll be here waiting for them. I've got my shotgun. I'll protect myself and my property,” said Slough. "I'll identify myself, tell them, ‘if you move, I'll shoot.’"

Now that Slough has seen the mug shot, he's thinking it's not the same guy who broke in one of the other times.

Slough thinks that guy would have to be very slim to fit through one of the windows he broke.
