ROME, Ga. -- At least 12 out of 26 pit bulls that were seized from an alleged fighting operation in Rome were euthanized on Wednesday.Only seven of the dogs recovered last week living in unsanitary conditions in Lindale have been adopted -- an adult and six of her puppies.Floyd Animal Control director Jason Broome said the dogs were put down because of their aggressiveness and another was euthanized because of serious infections from fight wounds. There was also a shortage of space at the shelter, officials said.Officials are holding a pit bull mother and three of her babies to try to find a shelter that will take them. The dogs cannot be adopted in Floyd County according to a county ordinance, which defines pit bull terriers as vicious animals.
