A shooting death overnight may have uncovered an illegal gambling operation.

23-year-old Millard Martin Jr. of College Park was killed at a business on Old National Highway in south Fulton County around 1 a.m.

Instead of calling an ambulance, Martin's friends put him in one of their cars and headed to the hospital.

On the way, they flagged down an ambulance. Martin, known as “Little Earl” was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital.

CBS Atlanta is still trying to confirm with police exactly what was happening in the office suite where the shooting happened.

The office suite is located across from a police precinct.

John Hartley works in a recording studio right behind the office building where Martin was shot and killed overnight.

Hartley said he never could figure out what type of business was in that particular office suite.

"It's always crowded, you have to drive through, get cars to scoot over to get in the back,” said Hartley.

Andre Robinson said he knows what's going on there.

He's a locksmith and the owner of the office suite is one of his clients.

"It's a game room. They have back in the back, they have a table they play black jack and stuff like that, so it is a game room,” said Robinson.

But is illegal gambling going on there?

“I've never seen them exchange money or anything like that,” said Robinson.

CBS Atlanta News spoke with people who work nearby.

They told us every time they walked by the office suite they could hear loud music and they could smell marijuana.
