Swastikas and vulgar graffiti were painted on two homes in Dunwoody and a house in Sandy Springs over the weekend, police said.

Police in both cities are trying to determine if all three crimes are related. Investigators are also trying to learn whether these were random or if the homes were targeted.

Bits of spray paint could still be seen Monday around one of the homes, a house on Coronation drive in Dunwoody. Vandals struck overnight Saturday, police said, leaving behind a face on a tree and something more disturbing.

“There were racial epithets and derogatory sexual remarks and swastikas on the windows,” said resident John Sommers.

Sommers said he never thought he'd see this kind of vandalism.

“Everybody was shocked. It's a quiet neighborhood. I've been here 25 years,” he said.

Sommers said a student who lives at the home graduated from high school over the weekend, and the vandalism put a damper on the celebration.

“How’s the family doing?” asked CBS Atlanta’s Jennifer Mayerle.

“Not too good, not too good,” Sommers responded.

Just a few streets away, a home on Redfield Road was also struck. New paint covered the graffiti spray painted on the mailbox.

Residents said swastikas were wiped off the windows and the yard mowed to cover up phallic images and swear words sprayed across the grass.

“It was an appalling act of vandalism. I'm sure the whole neighborhood is upset about it,” said resident Sue Munger.

Police said they are not sure whether the vandals were out to get these homeowners or if the incidents were a prank by teenagers.

“I hope that they're apprehended and there are some repercussions. They may be kids, I hope not,” Munger said.

The home in Sandy Springs also had toilet paper all over the yard, police said.
