A judge denied bond for the man accused of stealing a truck and leading police on a wild chase through five counties.

Milo Banks made his first court appearance Wednesday.

A hearing was held before the appearance, but officials did not say what happened at the meeting.

Police said Banks stole the truck at about 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Kroger located on Jonesboro Road in Union City in south Fulton County.

The owner of the truck, Torrey Robert Lang, 33, of Lithonia, jumped onto the back of the truck and called 911.

The truck was spotted by two detectives at the intersection of 138 and Old National Highway. The detectives stopped at a red light and pulled their weapons, but Banks took off, investigators said.

CBS Atlanta’s Sky Eye was over the scene for nearly the entire hour-long chase as it sped down I-75 southbound winding through five counties ending in Monroe County, north of the city of Forsyth.

The owner, Torrey Lang, finally jumped off when the truck slowed toward a stop.

Investigators said Lang received minor scrapes from his tumble to the ground and remained in Monroe County, where he was being interviewed by GBI agents.

"I just want to see him myself to make sure he is OK," said Tanya Lang, Torrey's grandmother, speaking with The Associated Press by telephone. "I've been trying call to reach him all day. I just want to make sure he's OK."

After the truck stopped, dozens of officers swarmed the truck and after several moments, pulled Banks out.

CBS Atlanta News was told Banks has been violent toward officers and has been putting up a fight since he was caught, even trying to kick the glass out of the police car he was in.

Banks, of Albany, Ga., was taken to the Monroe County jail and later transferred to a county jail in south Fulton County, investigators said. Banks faces a charge of felony theft of a motor vehicle.

A trooper was shot by friendly fire during the incident, investigators said. He was taken to Macon Medical Center with a superficial wound to the shoulder. His injury is not life-threatening.
