Church Employee Accused Of Stealing
$60,000 Missing From Church

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- A Cherokee County woman is accused of embezzling $60,000 from a church.Police said 40-year-old Susan Brooms, a bookkeeper at Sixes Presbyterian Church in Canton, funneled the money into her personal bank account.She used it pay her mortgage and utility bills from 2004 to 2008.While searching her home, officer's also found cocaine and marijuana in her husband's belongings. He was arrested on drug chargesClergy and church members say they feel betrayed, but that it’s time to move on.“Through the grace of God you can get through anything. It's not God's will. It's our job to take what happens and make the best of it,” said church member Chris Knapp.“The budget is really tight right now because we're missing this money, but we expect to get beyond this,” said Rev. Tom Wood.Susan Brooms is being held without bond.
