Some Atlanta students found themselves with an extended Thanksgiving break after the technical school they were attending suddenly closed its doors Monday.

Students outside the Nightingale Medical Institute in Atlanta showed up for school Monday morning with books in hand, and became angry when they found out there is no more school.

"People lost their jobs, people lost their houses, people did all this to come to school just to come for nothing," said one student.

Student Orkesha Williams showed CBS 46 News a letter she received, which said the school has been closed, but didn’t say why.

"I showed up today and found out we don't have school. And I don't know why we don't have school. (Someone) said some money got stolen," Williams said.

Nightingale is a technical institute which specialized in massage therapy and training. Its corporate office is in Canada.

Students at the Atlanta campus said they enrolled to pursue their dream, but instead, they said their dream turned into a nightmare.

Office manager Ganelle Cross said she hasn't been paid in weeks.

Raheen Vaughan, the admissions representative, said things started going downhill about a month ago, when CEO Clive McNichols came to the school to do an assessment and found money missing.

"They found out that the money they had invested in the school isn't here anymore. And they wanted to know what happened to the money," Vaughan said.

Students and staff have a lot of questions for former Nightingale president Carol Harrison Brady, who was inside the school Monday, but wouldn't come out. CBS 46 News went to Brady's home to ask him about Nightingale's troubles, but no one answered the door.

Students are concerned that the more than $10,000 in student loans they receive to fund their education will still have to be paid.

But CBS 46 called Christopher Penn, chief media officer for the Student Loan Network. “Students are not responsible for any federal student loan if the school has closed,” Penn said in a statement.

Students will have to fill out the School Closure Loan Discharge Form, which CBS46.com has provided in the sidebar above.
