DECATUR, Ga. -- A young mother's life was cut tragically short.

Police say a stray bullet intended for someone else missed its mark.

Tuesday afternoon CBS 46 learned that mother of three was 9 weeks pregnant with her fourth child.

Quishanna Loynes was getting her kids ready for bed last night when a gunfight broke out at her apartment complex off Holcomb Road in Decatur.

Police made one arrest in the gunfight, but it means nothing to a family in some of the deepest pain you can imagine.

The single bullet just missed the children and struck their mother in the back.

"She didn't see it coming, didn't know what hit her. Bam. [She] took two steps and hit the floor," said Davina Sanders, Loynes’ great grandmother.

Her great-grandchildren witnessed all of it.

"Myself and my son were the ones that had to tell them that their mother's dead, because they didn't know. They just knew that she's been shot," said Sanders.

Sanders described Loynes as a loving mother of her children, 8-year-old James, 9-year-old Tyshara, and 11-year-old Jasha, all honor students with dreams of college and a life better than their mother's.

Loynes was recently laid-off from a supermarket and penniless.

"They came up with a three word objective. Make mommy proud. They are already making mommy proud, but they feel like she's in heaven looking down on them and they want to continue making mommy proud," said Sanders.

A second gunman is being sought in the shooting.
