ATLANTA -- High gas prices prompted state officials to investigate nearly 150 gas stations for price gouging. Now some gas station managers want the oil companies to be held accountable for raising fuel prices.“Everybody needs the same price at every gas station,” said customer Andrew Epperson.BP customers complained about high gas prices today, but they're not the only ones upset about it.“It hurt our business a lot. I use to sell 2,000 gallons [per day] and right now I’m selling under 1,000 gallons so it's a lot of money,” said BP station manager Danny Lakhani.Lakhani is one of many in metro Atlanta that's furious about high fuel prices. He paid nearly $1 a gallon more for a supply of regular unleaded today.“The BP's making a lot of money basically and we're paying the high price and when the customer comes in and start yelling at us saying how come the other gas stations are pretty cheap and how come your prices are too high,” said Lakhani.Ken Tucker also manages a local BP and his competitive pricing charts illustrate the problem. He paid $3.25 a gallon for a supply of BP fuel Wednesday compared to $2.26 for Shell gas.“I'm disgusted, it's ridiculous. It's not just me. It's the consumers. They have to pay for it as well,” said Tucker.Tucker says BP started raising their fuel prices a few weeks ago during the gas crisis. As a result he's had to raise his prices and he doesn't want people to think he's price gouging.“If it's a free market how come Governor Perdue signed an executive order saying that gas stations can’t do anything higher than what they've been doing, but gas companies can,” said Tucker.CBS 46 news contacted BP corporate to find out why their gas prices are so much higher than the other stations around metro Atlanta. To this point they've not returned our phone calls. At least one station is easing the price problem.CBS 46 found a couple of gas stations in Gwinnett County where you can fill up for less than $3 a gallon.Dock Jackson does a lot of driving for his job with Gainesville Industrial Electric.“One of the guys who works with us lives over here told us about the price this morning so the boss called everybody and said get gas here,” said Jackson. The Marathon on Peachtree Industrial in Buford is selling gas for $2.89 a gallon and $2.69 if you use a marathon card. The gas station is known for its low prices.“They're amazing. [They are] about 70 cents less than everyone else. Every cent helps,” said Dominic Faraj.A manager couldn't tell CBS 46 News how the station is managing such a miraculous thing, but we can tell you that it may have inspired a Shell station on nearby Buford Dam Road to price its fuel at $2.99, still well below most of the competition. But back at the Marathon the price is fueling a good feeling.Across the street from my house it's $3.69 and I thought that was good. But everybody told me it's cheaper here so we're here,” said Kerry Combs.People did have to wait a little to get that gas, but it was nothing like the lines we saw during our recent gas shortage.
