FITZGERALD, Ga. -- A south Georgia toddler drowned in a swimming pool Friday, police said.

The drowning occurred just before 8 p.m. in the small town of Fitzgerald, which is near Albany.

Police would not reveal where Tyrese Carter, 22 months, died, but said the investigation is ongoing. The Department of Family and Children Services is assisting in the probe.

Authorities said the body will likely be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Atlanta on Monday.
