Hazmat Crews Called To Emory University

Hazmat crews were called to Emory University early Friday morning after students reported seeing trash cans on fire outside two dormitories.

The incident was reported around 2:30 a.m. in front of the Evans and Few buildings on Eagle Row.

According to DeKalb firefighters, students said that while the trash cans were burning, they heard loud popping noises.

An investigation by hazmat crews found the noises came from Coke bottles that were filled with a chlorine-like substance. The bottles were bagged and taken away by investigators.

No one was hurt. Campus police officials said the investigation will continue, but they believe the incident was a prank by some students.
