Karr Did Not Say Where He Went, Father Says

John Mark Karr, feeling unwelcome in the Grant Park neighborhood near downtown Atlanta, has left the country, his father said. But Karr did not say where he was headed.

Wexford Karr said his son had moved to the Grant Park "where he was helping me with some of my properties."

John Mark Karr, 43, implicated himself in the murder of JonBenet Ramsey, 6, who was found dead in her Boulder, Colo., home on Dec. 26, 1996.

Karr was cleared of the Ramsey murder when his DNA did not match that found on Jon Benet's body.

In an interview with CBS 46's Jennifer Mayerle in July 2007, John Mark Karr said he had been treated roughly in Atlanta.

"I've had people shout out 'killer,' 'murderer'," Karr said. "I've had people shout out obscenities at me."

John Mark Karr told Mayerle that people had the wrong impression of him.

"I'm not a registered sex offender," he said. "I was treated like that and it hurts me. I know there is a threat there that somebody could act upon their hate, because that's hate and hate is a powerful emotion and it drives violence."

John Mark Karr visited JonBenet's Atlanta grave site often.

"I feel her presence every day like we all do who knew her and loved her," Karr said. "She was just larger than life, she was incredible she was always the focus to me. It was just hard not to be focused on her. She's beautiful and colorful and creative and the way she talked and she was just an interesting little girl," Karr told Mayerle. "If I spend the rest of my life in prison it will never pay back for the loss of her life. If my life were taken by lethal injection it would not suffice. It would not be good enough. My life is not worth as much as her life."
