Woodstock Thieves Hit Cars During Daylight Hours

Thieves Steal Credit, Debit Cards From Cars At Woodstock Parks

There have been at least six daytime car break-ins during the past month in Woodstock, police said Friday.

Thieves are stealing credit cards while innocent victims are enjoying the afternoon at Biello Park.

“Somewhere you take your kids you would think it would be safe, but that's just too bad,” said park visitor Brenda Wilhelm.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Department said most of the incidents have happened at public parks like Biello as well as fitness centers.

“What they're doing is they're breaking the windows out of the cars. They're stealing a purse and immediately going to local retail stores and attempting to buy gift cards with stolen debit and credit cards,” said Sgt. Jay Baker.

Investigators are looking for two men and two women who they say are responsible for the thefts.

“It's just a shame that you come out to play with your kids in the park and people are trying to break into your cars to steal your wallets or other valuables,” said park visitor Frank McAdoo.

While at the park Friday, CBS 46 found a couple of people who left credit cards in their cars while relaxing.

“Yeah, I thought about it when I was leaving my purse in the car. I didn't want to have to take it in and carry it around with me while we were playing. I just thought it will be a perfectly safe place at the park, so I guess i'll think twice next time,” Wilhelm said.

Investigators released surveillance video of the thieves. If you know anything about the culprits or the thefts, you are asked to call the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department.
