A local family who was profiled on the TV show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will not be forced from their home.

CBS 46 News learned Monday that the Harper family worked out a deal with their mortgage company to modify their $450,000 loan to help them avoid foreclosure and keep their home.

The home in Lake City had been scheduled to be auctioned off Tuesday.

“It was a blessing that they got it and it will be an even better blessing that they will be able to stay in it," said resident Alfreda Johnson.

“Well, that's great. I'm glad to hear it. I hope they can stay in the house. It's a beautiful house and the area is nice so hopefully it works out for them,” said resident Scott Barnett.

A neighbor had nothing but compliments for the Harpers.

“We know they are good people,” said neighbor Carlos Medea. “I'm so glad they are going to stay here because they're good neighbors, they're very good neighbors.”

The Harpers told CBS 46 they did not want to talk on-camera Monday.
