UPDATED: 6:40 pm EDT July 16, 2008

A Dekalb County police officer was responding to an armed robbery at Moreland Avenue and Interstate 285 on Wednesday when he got into a car accident.

The police chase began when two men fled a Citgo gas station after robbing it, police said.

Shortly after they fled, an officer and his dog found a suspect. The man shot the dog in the snout, police said.

During this time two officers in their patrol car responding to the robbery were hit in the rear fender, sending the patrol car flying directly into the utility pole.

A live utility pole was knocked down and Georgia Power was called to the scene.

The officer was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say they are still searching for suspects.
