Atlanta-Area Men Charged In Trafficking Ring

Federal prosecutors said Monday that five men from the Atlanta area face federal charges of human trafficking for bringing girls into the U.S. and forcing them into prostitution.

The accused are four Hispanic men living in Norcross and a man from Uruguay who lives in Cartersville.

Federal investigators said the men lured 10 girls from Mexico, including several who are younger than 18, by promising them a better life in Georgia.

Prosecutors said instead of getting restaurant or cleaning jobs, the girls were beaten or threatened unless they performed sex acts for money 20 to 30 times a day.

According to prosecutors, the lives of the girls’ families were also threatened.

Named in a 31-count indictment were Amador Cortes-Meza, 34; Juan Cortes-Meza, 31,; Francisco Cortes-Meza, 25, and Raul Cortes-Meza, 21, all of Mexico and living in Norcross, and Edison Wagner Rosa Tort, 69, of Uruguay and living in Cartersville.
