Teen Drowning Victim Identified

POSTED: 8:38 am EDT July 7, 2008

Police identified the 17-year-old boy who drowned in Lake Lanier over the holiday weekend.

Police said Aeriel Cotuc Chaudjay of Duluth was swimming with friends on Friday when he slipped at a drop-off where the water went down to 15 feet. Authorities said the victim apparently could not swim and did not surface.

Forsyth County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jason Shivers said Chaudjay's friends were unaware he was underwater and did not call authorities for about half an hour. They were searching for him on land when they realized he was in the lake.

The drowning was at Little Ridge Park in central Forsyth County.
