Gwinnett Pilot Killed In Crash Identified

CLEVELAND, Ga. -- Authorities have released the name of the pilot who died when his ultralight aircraft crashed in White County, then exploded.The White County Sheriff's Office said Jim Lanier of Sugar Hill was killed in Wednesday morning's crash. The ultralight went down at about 9:15 a.m.Witnesses said they heard the engine sputter when the aircraft was taking off, then they heard the plane crash and explode.Ultralights are small, lightweight aircraft usually made of aluminum and fabric.The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
