Police Seek Waffle House Murder Suspect

CONYERS, Ga. -- The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public’s help for information leading to the location and arrest of Charles Octavius McGruder, the suspect wanted for the murder of James Bernard Johnson at the Waffle House on Salem Road on May 20, 2008.Charles Octavius McGruder, AKA "Tay" and "Big Boy" is being sought on outstanding warrants for murder, two counts of aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.He is believed to be in Dekalb County around the Glenwood and McAfee areas.He is 18 years old, and is described as being approximately 5'6 tall, 220 lbs., some light facial hair, and a tattoo with the name "Sandra" on one side of his neck.James Johnson, of Leesville, S.C., and his friend were visiting Atlanta on the night of May 20 when they stopped to eat dinner at the Waffle House on Salem Road.Johnson was shot by McGruder about 3:30 a.m. while he was sitting in the parking lot in his SUV.Anyone recognizing McGruder or having information regarding his whereabouts is encouraged to contact Investigator Amanda Pilgrim at 770-761-3084 or Sheriff Jeff Wigington at 678-858-6064.Anyone providing information can be kept anonymous.
